Shenny de Los Angeles is a Dominican-American writer, performer, and filmmaker from Kissimmee, Florida. Committed to telling the stories of rebellious Black and Caribbean women throughout history, her work unearths the complicated beauty of being alive. She is currently a part of the PBS Ignite Filmmaker Program. Her latest short film, “hija de Florinda,” was funded by The Center of Cultural Power’s Climate Woke Campaign and exhibited at MoCA, LA. Her short doc, the ritual to beauty, was acquired by The New Yorker and received the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance. Shortlisted for the 2025 Creative Capital Award Cycle, de Los Angeles is writing her next film about Zora Neale Hurston and a post-apocalyptic future of Eatonville, Florida, where Black writers are being erased from the cultural consciousness.
